Our story

We do not know the exact date of construction of the Palm Event Hall. The Kuny Domokos Museum has a plan/sketch plan dated 1822, signed by Antal Bánóczy, which shows a building called Glashaus, but neither the shape nor the orientation of the building is the same as the present one. It is therefore safe to say that the drawing does not show the building that still stands today, but its predecessor, perhaps a real glasshouse, which was used for the winter storage of the plants of the English Park in the south of the country, established in the last third of the 18th century.

Several authors date the construction of the building that stands today to the last decades of the 1800s. By this time, however, it was more of a café, an amusement arcade and a kiosk, serving guests at the Hattyouliget cold baths, Crystal Beach and the English Park.

However, a postcard from 1925 also shows that the building retained its role as a palm house, sheltering the park’s palms, orange and lemon trees during the cold months when it was less suitable for bathing.

The wall surveys carried out in 2003 clearly showed that the rectangular main building, with its large windows facing south-west, and the north-east facing Crystal Beach – overlooking the Crystal Beach, was built at the same time.

Newspaper articles and postcards from the 1930s tell of a lively social life, and the Anna balls held in the kiosk were famous far and wide.

A Dunántúl 1936. on page 28 of the June issue of the About kiosk:
“At the very beginning of the park, a comfortable restaurant welcomes guests. Nearby is the racecourse owned by the count’s family and the horse races in Tata are usually very popular. On the shore of the lake there is a bathhouse with good comfortable bathing cabins for the use of hikers and residents.”

The heyday of the kiosk was ended for decades by the Second World War. World War II. To serve the needs of the slowly reviving domestic tourism sector, the XX. In the second half of the century, the building was converted into a tourist hotel, its 6-9 m high ceilings divided by slabs and partitioned into small rooms, lacking in elegance. The huge windows that gave the building its special atmosphere were removed and replaced by unpretentious double-hung windows and masonry.

Since the late 1990s, the building has been vacant and its condition has deteriorated steadily and rapidly.

The interior and exterior reconstruction of the listed building, which has become a threat to its Regional Development Operational Programme of the First National Development Plan an open opportunity for the XXI. century. With the help of national and EU funding, the building has been restored to its former function and is now As an event venue awaits its guests. A 2006. Reconstruction work, which began in August, has removed nearly 60 years of decay and destruction in just eight months, restoring the building to its original beauty and restoring it to the public.

A Cultural Heritage Protection Office The large hall has been renovated in an Art Nouveau style, and is equipped with sound equipment for chamber theatre performances and chamber concerts. The air-conditioned room can accommodate up to 200 people, thanks to the easy-to-rearrange furniture. The semi-circular section of the building, built on the site of a former polygonal terrace demolished over time, houses the smaller, multi-purpose section rooms – with a total capacity of 150 seats – and a well-equipped finishing kitchen for events.
